Summer Death Spiral
Composed of 2259 hand cut, pop-up, paper skulls (the number of hours in a northern hemisphere summer), this piece serves as the "bones" aspect of the work "Swelter".
Before moving to Oklahoma, I had probably experienced 100 degree heat around ten times in my entire 36 years. My first summer here, we had thirty consecutive days of it. Since then, I've looked at summer as an endurance test for my ill-prepared body. This work is an attempt to express this idea.
