I encounter numerous references to religion and patriotism during my daily life in Oklahoma. I personally feel fairly ambivalent about these subjects, but don't begrudge those who take comfort in them. This body of prints started with the idea of using elements from these two sets of subject matter in a way that distanced them from their usual context and overtones. My intention wasn't to find personal meaning in them, but to depoliticize them and present them as neutral elements in a larger internal narrative.
